I am sitting here on a Saturday night after working on our website (adding more information) and I started to contemplate about how much we have achieved in a relatively short space of time.
However, its not been an easy journey so far and some days I just wonder why so many barriers are placed before social entrepreneurs like me, who are simply trying to do good for people and address a real need!
Its not easy to start any business, whether its a social enterprise or private sector. You have still got to have a great product or service, meet the needs of customers and know how to market your business!
Funding is the main barrier. So much red tape to get through and all that bid writing (I am no expert but learning fast!). Its a full time job applying for funding, but when you are working in the social enterprise at the same time, its hard to juggle lots of plates spinning at once.
Its certainly a challenge but is an adventure too and every day, I learn something new about social businesses and myself! (written by Jayne Allman)
